About Skjaldmarr

My Name is Tracy Buckby and I live in the old town of Skelmersdale with my husband Roy, my two sons Jack and Dan and two Bull Terriers named Dennis  and Dot.  The boys and I managed to persuade Roy to let us have a dog a few years ago, and as a friend of mine had Westies, we decided to go down that route and Maggi joined our family at the age of 10 weeks. She  brought such fun and laughter into the house, unfortunately she has now passed away but has left a huge impact on everyone who has been priviledged to know her, and she will always be in our hearts.

All was fine in the Buckby household but I kept thinking it would be nice to have an addition to the family. After a very daft accident on a trampoline (and yes alcohol was involved) I realised I wouldn’t be as involved in my other interest of motorbikes as I will now have to be a pillion rather than a rider.

Roy thought it would be good to have a companion for Maggi and also to get involved in showing which my eldest lad Jack could also do. The decision then was which breed. Do we get another Westie or go for something completely different. As none of us knew how to hand strip a Westie, and also thought it would be awful to show another Westie but leave Maggi at home. We thought we'd be better with a “Wash and go” type dog. This narrowed it down to either a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or a Bull Terrier.

We didn’t know anyone who showed Staffs, but someone who I work with persuaded me to go with English Bull Terriers, thanks Donna of Joswell Bull Terriers. Donna gave me some contacts and I went to meet Chris Garwood in Shropshire from the Benjip Kennel. This is where I first saw Dennis, who is named Benjip Gentle Ben. I fell in love with him straight away, wasn’t quite sure if I knew what I was looking for, didn’t really know what names I should have seen in his line, but took advice and went with my heart.

After a while we thought we might like an addition to Dennis and yes Donna you were right, you can’t just have one! I told Chris Kilpatrick from Kilacabar we were on the look out for a white bitch, thinking it would be some time before one came along. How wrong was I. I received a call from him to say he was with Tam Smith from Glasgow from the Pamjodale kennel and he had a very nice bitch. Doris then became the 3rd member of our doggy family. Doris became a very strong member of our family and we had such joy showing her.  She had just started to win her classes and had lots of potential.  Her final show at Northern Provincial Bull Terrier Club she won all of the Trophies, we were so pleased.  Unfortunately, she became ill a few days later and we sadly lost her at the age of 18 months.

After we lost Maggi, as the bullies have their outside house we felt the house was empty, we knew someone with a nice litter of staffordshire's and Stanley became a member of our family.  It was soon apparent that he had very good show potential, however, we didnt have time to show him as well with all our spare time being taken up with the bullies, Stanley has now gone to a top show home.  We will be following his career closely.

Since we lost our beloved Doris we thought very long and hard whether we wanted to continue with the bullies, didnt know if we could cope with anymore heartbreak.  We went to see Sue and Dave Jackson of Evaduse and instantly fell in love with Dot.  She is the latest edition to our bullie family and is just adorable.  Not only do we love her but Dennis also loves her.  We will be showing her as soon as we think she is ready and will post her achievments on her page.  A big thank you to Sue and Dave for trusting us with her and also for becoming such very good friends of ours where we can regularly meet up with our combined bullie families.
